Located on the north side of the island overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Luquillo is approximately 30 minutes from the airport in San Juan.
In additional to spectacular golden sand beaches, Luquillo offers a wide variety of dining options with these incredible views. Eat at one of the local kioskos, pack a picnic lunch, or stock up at the Luquillo Farmer’s Market, there is plenty of food and incredible views in Luquillo, Puerto Rico.

Food tastes better with an ocean view, and one of the best stretches of beach in Puerto Rico is in Luquillo. Located on the north side of the island overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, Luquillo is approximately 30 minutes from the airport in San Juan.  The soft, golden sand beaches stretch over 12 miles of coastline, offering sections that are clear and calm, while others are perfect for surfing and kiteboarding.

Hurricane Irma Impact in Puerto Rico

By now, most people know that Hurricane Irma is a Category 5 Hurricane and the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean.  Geography buffs also know that the Caribbean Sea and Caribbean Islands are considered part of the Atlantic Ocean.  We live in Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean, in the Atlantic Ocean, where this monster hurricane passed through leaving massive devastation in her wake.

Here is the real impact of Hurricane Irma in Puerto Rico.

We are lucky.  Puerto Rico is lucky.  Hurricane Irma passed to the north of our island, slapping our little island of Culebra along the way.  Electricity went out throughout the island hours before Irma passed by.  Many areas of the island were without water for days, and more are still without electricity (5 days and counting).  But our buildings are still standing, and we are alive.  We are lucky. An Exquisite Evening at El San Juan Hotel

I recently enjoyed an exquisite evening of dinner, dancing, and (a few) drinks at the newly remodeled and quite fabulous El San Juan hotel located in Isla Verde area of San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Now part of the Fairmont luxury properties, this vintage resort oozes classic Caribbean opulence and splendor.

An Exquisite Evening at El San Juan

El San Juan hotel offers cozy spots for a romantic evening, and a healthy nightlife for an exciting night out.  Saturday night may be filled with fashionable activities like formal school dances (Prom), wedding receptions, or other celebrations.  Or check for out some of the upcoming events at the Cabaret lounge.

Stand Up Paddleboard on Condado Lagoon | Adventure in San Juan Puerto Rico

Until quite recently, my Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) experience was limited to the tame gym pool.  Now that I live on a tropical island, I am hooked on SUP!  During the Women Who Live on Rocks writer’s retreat, we were invited to a fabulous morning adventure of SUP and kayaking on Condado Lagoon in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Exploring the Ceiba Swings in Puerto Rico

Columpio de Ceiba also known as the Ceiba swings are a perfect example of a place that is made more popular from Instagram, but was a bit of a disappointment in real life.

The swings are located in Roosevelt Road, a former US Navy base in the East coast town of Ceiba, Puerto Rico.  Mid way between Fajardo and Humacao, Ceiba is an easy drive along the 53 toll road.  There are two exits for Roosevelt Roads in Ceiba.

The swings are very popular with locals and tourists alike thanks to Instagram.  Any day you visit will likely require a wait for the photo op on the swings.  Try going early to avoid the crowds and the best lighting. Continue reading “Exploring the Ceiba Swings in Puerto Rico”
