Best Beaches in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico

Cabo Rojo is home to some of my favorite beaches in Puerto Rico!

I love the soft sand, clear, calm water beaches that you can wade out into the water, snorkel, or kayak. These tend to be family friendly beaches with minimal risk of rough waters or rip tides. Most days are so flat and calm the water resembles a mirror, perfect for Stand Up Paddleboarding or just relaxing in the water with a beverage.

Here are my favorite beaches in Cabo Rojo starting from North to South along the West coast of Puerto Rico.

Playa Tres Tubos – Joyuda Beach

Starting on the north end of Cabo Rojo in the Joyuda neighborhood along Route 102, is the tiny hidden entrance to Playa Tres Tubos. A short walk through the narrow walkway leads to a peaceful and calm beach.

There are several small, dirt parking areas across the road along Route 102 between a couple high rise condominium buildings. The narrow walkway is easy to miss from the road. If the parking areas are full, then this tiny, hidden beach is full, too. Remember to bring your umbrella and beverages, there is no shade or amenities on this beach.

Playa Ostiones

Playa Ostiones is a small, secluded beach with hiking trails, perfect for kayaking, Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) and long stretches of shaded beach to the south. A small, dirt parking area leads directly to the designed area for swimming & snorkeling. Or enjoy the out-and-back hiking trails of sendero ducot to the left and quiet, narrow beach to the right.

Mangroves and palm tree groves are abundant along the beach and offer a wonderful symphony of bird songs frequently featuring parrots and other tropical birds to delight bird watchers of every level.

Playa Buye

Playa Buye is one of the most beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico, and it is one of the most popular on weekends and holidays! Week days are the best time to visit to avoid the crowds. I highly recommend arriving before Noon on holidays or week ends to find parking.

The beautiful line of colorful homes along the water are an attraction on their own. These historic homes are painted bright colors and often kiss the water along the shore. There are designated areas for motorized water sports or no wake activities including swiming, snorkeling, and floaties.

Boqueron Bay Beach and Balneario Boqueron

The mile long bay of Boqueron is accessible from the beach town located along route 101, as well as Parque Nacional Balneario Boqueron national park.

Balneario Boqueron is the government maintained public beach and national park area surrounded by coconut palm trees and boosts ample parking for easy beach access.

Combate Beach in Boqueron

Combate beach leads a double life of excitement and relaxation!

On the north end of Combate there are jetski rental, boat launch, and small dock for private boats and motorized water sports.

Farther south, past Annie’s Place Restuarant, is the shallow no wake zone for a relaxing day at the beach. There is plenty of shade along the coast under the lush tree canopy, plus nearby restaurants and facilities. Bring your bicycle and explore along the bike trail behind the beach.

Kayaks and Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP) are allowed for your peaceful adventure past the shallow water barrier.

A short walk down the southern tip of Combate beach connects to Puerto Angelino Beach with another small dock for private boats.

Playa Sucia, Cabo Rojo Lighthouse, and the Pink Lakes

At the south end of Cabo Rojo sits the Cabo Rojo Los Morrillos Lighthouse overlooking the famous pink lakes and Playa La Playuela / Playa Sucia.
