The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is the only Five Diamond resort property on the island of Puerto Rico. And that is exactly what I had in mind for a luxury getaway break.
I have been to the St. Regis Bahia resort Spa several times, but this was our first overnight stay at the property. I booked a 4 day, 3 night reservation over Thanksgiving weekend, which also happens to be our Anniversary. November is still considered off-peak for tourist season, which officially kicks off mid-December through April.
We checked into a Superior Non-Smoking room with Tropical Garden View. Do not let that description fool you, this is the entry level of the luxury accommodations at the resort. Our room’s “only” luxury amenities are the Spacious Terrace, and Deluxe Shower & Tub.
I would love to see what the nicer luxury accommodations look like! The room was 674 sf/63 sm (larger than my apartment while attending University). The room was pristine (clean is an understatement), modern, and thoughtfully designed.
There is an expectation of over-the-top service at a Five Diamond property, but the staff exceeded that expectation. Throughout our stay, the staff went out of their way to make us feel special on our Anniversary. When first entering our room, we were greeted with a bottle of red wine and chocolate covered strawberries with a lovely note. Throughout our stay, we received more sweets and treats, towels shaped like swans, extra Champagne during our Spa services, and even a drawn bubble bath waiting for us after our Anniversary dinner at Fern!
The majority of our resort stay revolved around eating, drinking, relaxing on the balcony, relaxing on the beach, relaxing by the pool, relaxing at the spa, and walking on the beach.
The casual dining restaurants of Seagrapes and Molasses are perfect options for lunch or pool side beverage. The St Regis Bar in the (still unfortunately named) Plantation House serves delicious complementary coffee and tea in the morning, then full bar with small plate appetizers from Fern for dinner. Fern offers a breakfast buffet with omelet station, charcuterie spread, pastries, fruits, yogurts, cereals, variety of fresh squeezed fruit juices, and all things breakfast for a few hours in the morning. Fern is closed for lunch, and on Sundays. These are excellent dining options for a couple days, and if you want to venture out of the resort, the Luquillo beach kiosks are a few miles east on Highway 3.
Did I mention the beach? Soft golden sand stretches the entire length of the resort property. Unlike most beaches in Puerto Rico, the sand is groomed (sea weed is removed and the sand is “swept”) for a perfectly manicured beach. The sand also extends at least 100 feet in shallow water, perfect for children and drunk, or less than sober people. The semi-private beach (PR requires public access to all beaches) is adorned with beach lounge chairs, umbrellas, water stations and a bar.
On our last day at the resort, we borrowed bikes from the boathouse and went on a ride around the property. Big mistake waiting until our last day, we should have taken the bikes out as soon as we checked into the resort. Bicycle is the perfect mode of transportation to explore the resort in an intimate and leisurely fashion. The bike trails wrap around the entire property including the undeveloped sections and islands around the lakes and golf courses. We enjoyed the bike ride so much, I think we could have gone for a ride every single day!
In addition to the bicycles, the boathouse also offers complementary kayaks, Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP), dockside fishing, and a massive water slide in the lake.
There are plenty of family attractions, including kids club, movie nights, koi fish feeding, s’mores roasting poolside at sunset, and other children’s activities. The resort also offers adult-centric activities for outdoor enthusiasts, drunks, and foodies. We missed the evening Champagne sabering every night of our stay, but we still managed to score complimentary Champagne on the Plantation House back patio every night.
The St Regis Bahia Beach Resort is a perfect luxury getaway, and I highly recommend for it couples celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon, or anyone looking for an excuse to enjoy excellent service!
