Phoenix Zoo Lights | Winter Holiday Tradition

Every winter (since 1991) starting Thanksgiving week until early January, the Phoenix Zoo decks out the grounds in an amazing light show.  Phoenix ZooLights is a holiday tradition for locals and visitors alike.  For these few weeks every year, the Phoenix Zoo transforms into a holiday wonderland at night.

The mild winter temperatures in Phoenix (early evening in the 60’s F/18 C) are perfect to enjoy hot chocolate and walk around the Zoo admiring the light show.  Only some of the animals may be visible during the ZooLights event, but you may still get to see a Unicorn!

Stroller friendly, and enough excitement to keep the little ones entertained, Phoenix ZooLights is a holiday favorite in my family.  Several of my family members buy the annual Zoo membership, and the kids (young and old, er taller) enjoy the annual visit to ZooLights!

There are light choreographed music shows illuminating the Zoo lake.  And it recent years, ZooLights has added a carousel!

My favorite activity, day or night, is Stingray Bay.  Where the majestic stingrays swim and play in the pool.

  1. These lights look amazing! Makes me wish we celebrated thanksgiving here in australia. One day I want to celebrate thanksgiving

  2. It looks like great fun. I love light displays and so would love to go see this. Never seen one in a zoo, maybe one day 🙂

  3. What wonderful lights! They really are spectacular!
Sting rays fascinate me to. They look so cute with their little mouths. I was lucky enough to see them in the wild in Belize.

  4. I love when things start to feel really Christmassy! This would definitely help that. I think I’m going to need to decorate my house because it’s just not the same here in Spain!

  5. Look at those lights. They are surely fascinating and definitely enjoyable to watch. I am really amazed with those lights especially i see many of those this festive season.

  6. I just saw an article about their lights! It looks amazingly magical! I love to go places with amazing holiday decorations (Christmas decorations are my favorites) and I would love to go here some time and enjoy these amazing lights! Xx

  7. This looks so cool! What a great way to celebrate the holidays. I would love to walk around and check all the lights out while sipping on holiday drinks, sounds amazing. The string ray pool would probably be a favorite of mine too, they’re so cool!
